The Bhumihar zamindaris were among the most influential landed estates in eastern India, particularly across present-day Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Bengal. These estates emerged under successive regional kingdoms and expanded during the Mughal and British periods, serving as important centers of administration, agriculture, education, and military support. Several Bhumihar families held large revenue-paying estates and played notable roles in local governance, social reform, and the Indian independence movement. While the zamindari system was abolished after independence, these historic estates continue to hold cultural and historical significance and remain an important part of the history of the Bhumihar community.
